Ghana Providing Free Visas for Africans in Diaspora
The initiative started by Vice-President Alhaji Alui Mahama would allow Ghana to issue special visas to Africans in Diaspora, giving them free access into the country without needing an ordinary visa every time they made a visit to the country. Diaspora is a population that is scattered or the movement of a people from its homeland. The project has been nicknamed "Akwaaba Anyemi" which translates to "Welcome Sibling" because according to Mr. Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, the Minister of Tourism and Modernization, " The Diaspora visa would allow you our brothers and sisters coming from the land of your slavery, free entry into our country without needing a visa anytime you have to come."
This topic relates to our class discussions because it shows a contrast to the acceptance of immigrants in Enrique's journey to those entering Ghana. Whereas the migration of migrants that journey through Central America and Mexico to reach the United States is heavily frowned upon, across the world in Ghana, migrants are seen as brothers and sisters in need of refuge and help.
