Government Steps In After Judge Denies Tribe's Request to Stop Pipeline

The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe, located in both North and South Dakota, have recently been protesting the building of an oil pipeline being built through Dakota and other states. The tribe is protesting because the pipeline is set to run near  Lake Oahe. This lake is very important to The Standing Rock Tribe because they use it for drinking and fishing for thousands of people. If there happens to be a mishap with the pipeline, their entire water supply will be ruined. To combat this situation, Standing Rock filed a lawsuit to cease the construction of the pipeline alongside their protesting. After the attack that Standing Rock Tribe went through, the judge denied the cease of construction and stated that "there is not enough evidence to support the argument that building the pipeline would harm the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe". Following this, the departments of justice, the interior, and the army, said that they will stop with the authorization of the pipeline being built until they determine their decisions with the lake. This is important because it shows the government protecting native tribes and their traditions when it comes to building projects around their reserves.  The tribe stated this regarding the involvement of the government, "This federal statement is a game changer for the tribe, and we are acting immediately on our legal options, including filing an appeal and a temporary injunction to force [Dakota Access] to stop construction".
