"Water Guns" is an extremely powerful and
heartfelt song. YouTube celebrity, Todrick Hall, wrote the song about police
brutality and gun violence. The first couple of lines in the song talk about
how the world is changing and he does this by comparing how the world is
now to how the world was during his childhood. He sings, "When I was
just a little boy, me and my father would go out back and play a little game of
cops and robbers...but things have changed now, the world just ain't the same
now, we're frightened but we need to be enlightened, use our brain now, people
pointing fingers, trying to find someone to blame now, ashamed how the game of
cops and robbers ain't a game now." These lines shed light on the
ongoing police brutality happening in today's world. In the
video, the names of the people who have recently died due to gun violence are
shown briefly such as, Trayvon Martin, Christina Grimmie and the 49
people who died during the Orlando shooting. In addition to the names,
everyone in the video who is a person of color has their face painted green. I
believe that this represents the fact that they are still seen as outcast. They
aren’t treated as equals and people are forced to create things like the
"Black Lives Matter Movement" in order for their voices to be heard.
